Tornado Touches down west of Springfield
June 19, 2007...This picture was taken around 2:30 p.m. just as the tornado between Pritchett and Springfield began to weaken. It was a quiet, warm and humid day when a storm cloud to the west seemed to fall to the earth in a funnel shape. Alarms going off seemed normal at first since Tuesday is the day the alarm equipment is tested. I would have liked to get a better picture but I didn't believe it when I was told there was a tornado and I had a pan of chicken frying anyway. I went out to see for myself and sure enough, there it was. By the time I got back with my camera it was starting to break up. I was never worried about it though because I could tell it was quiet a distance away. Later reports I heard was that it was three miles east of Pritchett. The "all clear" alarm was sounded at 3:00. Look at the upper right of the picture. What do you suppose is that in the air? A bird? A Plane? Superman? I can't tell. Maybe my camera lense is just dirty.
