NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Patrick J. Hebert, Sr., the former Vivian Smith, age 66, at 10:00 am Monday, May 4, 2009 at Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Chris Doumit will officiate. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.

The family has requested that visiting hours be observed on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and will resume on Monday from 8:00 am until time of service.

Mrs. Hebert passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at her residence with her family at her side.

Vivian Smith Hebert was born June 18, 1942 in Lamar, Colorado to John and Carol Pickle Smith. Vivian was the granddaughter of Alta and Lee Bixler and Harold and Nellie Smith, all from the Baca County, Co area.

On February 12, 1959, Vivian married Patrick J. Hebert in Lancaster, CA after his discharge from the military and settled in New Iberia, LA. She was a homemaker, who loved sewing and quilting, camping with her husband, and spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband and best friend of 50 years, Patrick J. Hebert, Sr.; her children, Patrick J. Hebert, Jr. of Lafayette, LA and Toni Hebert Rodrigue and husband Kevin of New Iberia, LA; four grandsons, Michael and Jason Rodrigue, and Patrick and Victor Anderson; three great grandchildren, Ashton L. Rodrigue, Alexa Anderson and Jeremy Anderson; and one great grandson that she was eagerly awaiting the birth of, Jacob Anderson. She is also survived by her step-mother, Bunkie Smith of Dove Creek, CO; and her brothers and sisters, Virgil Smith and wife Barbara, Jonna Pribble and Bonnie Thompson and husband Rodney all of Dove Creek, CO, Peggy Cundiff and husband George of Grayland, WA, Troy Smith and wife Barbara of Wasilla, AK, and Dennis Smith and wife Patty of Chugiak, AK.

Along with her parents and great grandparents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Racine Smith Proffitt.

Pallbearers will be JoPat Hebert, Jason Rodrigue, Michael Rodrigue and Kevin Rodrigue. Honorary pallbearers will be Cyril Hebert, Ricky Castille, David Landry, Wilton Guillotte, Eddie Viator and Louis Culotta.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hebert’s name to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Rinaldi and staff, Dr. Martha Coppage and Dr. J.A. Mata for their care and compassion shown to Vivian.
