Services for Pat Hatcher Lewis Sabeh were held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley, California. Pat had resided in La Mesa, California since 1957.

Pat, the daughter of Lila O’Neill Hatcher and James Hatcher, was born in Lamar, Colorado.

She attended school in Colorado and graduated from Springfield High School and the University of Colorado with honors and a degree in Education.

While at the University of Colorado, she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and served as its President.

Pat was a teacher for over 20 years, beginning in Portland, Oregon and continuing in Colorado, Florida and finally California.

She met her first husband, Tom Lewis, in college. They were married in 1953 and in 1955 they moved to Colorado where Tom was stationed in the Navy.

They had two children and raised them in San Diego’s East County. They were married for 21 years until Tom died of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in 1974.

In 1971, Pat went back to teaching and spent the next 15 years working as a Special Education teacher at Fletcher Hills Elementary and Program Specialist for the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District.

In 1978 she received her Masters Degree in Special Education from San Diego State University.

In 1977, Ray Sabeh met Pat and says he “fell in love with her at first sight.” They married in 1985, and were married for 23 years, living in La Mesa. They traveled extensively, covering the four corners of the world.

Pat can be described as a “renaissance woman,” knowing how to balance a career with raising a family. She was very involved with her family and the community. Her leadership capabilities and the opening of young minds became a hallmark of her character.

Among her community activities were: the Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, San Diego Museum of Art-East County Chapter and educational outreach for the opera. She also served as a hospice volunteer and Girl Scout leader for many years.

Pat is survived by her husband, Ray Sabeh of La Mesa; her son, Scott Lewis of San Diego; her daughter, Kristin Lewis of Bonsall together with her husband, Corky Vickers and their two children, Breton Vickers and Talisen Vickers.
