Geraldine Kathryn Jones Haley, daughter of S. Clarence Jones and Lena Troutman Jones, was born December 26, 1923 at Elkhart, Kansas.

Geraldine grew up on a farm northwest of Elkhart, Kansas. She loved the farm and especially all the farm animals. She rode horses when she could, most of the time bareback. She loved being outdoors.

She attended school in a one-room school house and walked about a mile to school. She completed about eight grades. In 1938, the family moved to a farm west of Ottawa, Kansas, where they resided until 1945.

The family moved to Baca County and continued to farm, raising wheat and broomcorn. Geraldine married Loyd Eldon Haley on October 21, 1944.

They were blessed with one child, Gayle Jean, on August 23, 1945. Gayle was their pride and joy.

In 1950, the marriage was dissolved and Geraldine moved in with her parents and stayed with them until their deaths. Rearing her daughter and helping her parents was a full time job. She loved to cook and delighted in coming to Walsh during broomcorn harvest and helping cook for the broomcorn hands.

Not only did she help her sister, but also other families in the Walsh area. In 1981, after the death of her mom, Geraldine moved to Walsh to be close to her family. She loved to walk around town visiting with family and friends since she didn’t drive (thank the Lord,) because you wouldn’t have wanted to be on the road with her driving.

Geraldine repented of her sin and trusted Christ as her Savior when she was younger and on October 1, 1989, she confessed her commitment openly by being obedient in baptism. She joined the First Baptist Church of Walsh and attended there regularly until her health would no longer allow her to do so.

Geraldine lived at Holt Manor for several years. She loved having her grandkids, nieces and nephews come to see her or to take her places.

As her health started to decline, she moved into the Assisted Care and later to Walsh Healthcare. She was most happy when family or friends stopped in to see her. She especially liked to see Garry (Vicki’s husband) only she called him Larry. She’d tell him to leave Vicki at home next time and come by himself. Everyone always got a kick out of that. Geraldine had quite a sense of humor.

Geraldine made her final journey bound for her heavenly home on April 16, 2009. We who love her will miss the beautiful mom, grandma, sister and aunt who blessed us with so much laughter and so much joy. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Clarence Jones and her sister, Maxine Jones Williamson. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle and husband Vernon; grandson Sammy Eggers; granddaughter Linda Eggers, all of Guymon, Oklahoma; brother Bob Jones and wife Nell of Walsh and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
