Althea was born November 21, 1922, in Cortez, Colorado, daughter of Richard and Mya Koppenhafer. Althea passed away Saturday April 24, 2009 in Salinas, California.

Althea attended elementary and new High school in Cortez, Colorado. She went on to attend Fort Lewis College and married Curtis M. King of Farmington on December 20, 1940.

While he served in the Army Air Corps, she began teaching school in Mancos, Colorado. After the war they both taught school and coached in schools in Colorado. Althea taught science and girls physical education, and her husband Curtis King was Principal of Springfield High School and football coach for four years.

The Kings were part of the faculty that moved students, desks and equipment into the "new" high school. Upon moving to California she was active in establishing the gifted programs and outdoor education in Walnut Creek School District.

She was also active in working with charities for Battered Women and for helping women in convalescing homes. In retirement Althea loved keeping up with current events, walking and working with her hearing dog and tending to her flowers and gardens.

Althea asked that friends remember her by growing their favorite plant or by scattering wild flower seeds in her memory.

Surviving Althea are her children. Loren King and wife Nancy of Salinas, CA, and daughter Aleita and husband Gene Huguenin of Rancho Murieta, CA. She is also survived by grandchildren Christopher King and wife Stefi and Derek Hildebrand and wife Amy.

She leaves two great grandchildren Andreas King and Mya Hildebrand.
