Still Life, Lemons with Orange

Note: I usually have two or three paintings in progress so the one here may not be moving forward too quickly as I have been working on others. You may see them in the background. I won't have pages like this for each painting as I would be on the computer too much and would not get much painting done. Working over a pencil sketch, I did an underpainting with burnt umber, then began to add color to the fruit.	From there I continued to add color and definition to the fruit, glass and knives.
Today I am focusing in on some details on the orange slices and their shadows. To see a close up of these two pictures click on the picture. Above is before I began.	When working on an object in the foreground, I also work on the background to balance the values against each other, so I added some lights and darks to the juicer also..
After looking closely at my photo, I realized that these cut pieces of fruit were not oranges but lemons and the color make them appear to be oranges. The purpose of this painting in the first place was to paint oranges and lemons together for the challenge of making them look distinguishable from each other. I had forgotten this was my intent. Enlarge by clicking on the picture.	Here is the whole picture. It is not finished by a long shot. I darkened the background, worked on the oranges in the front, which are supposed to be lemons. Tomarrow I will magically transform them into lemons. The two fruits in the back are supposed to be an orange in the back and a lemon in front. Enlarge by clicking on the picture.
From Oranges.... The only orange in the picture is the one in the very back. but in this picture the fruit in the front are too orange to be lemons. I decided the problem was the color and I had to add green to yellow plus white to change the oranges to lemons. See picture in next frame for the result. . I will also alter the color of the other lemon in the background later.	To Lemons.... As you can see in the picture above the fruit in the forground now looks more like lemons than oranges, which is what they were supposed to be. The picture in the previous frame is for comparison. Color alone makes the difference at this point. I will go into more detail later. Click on the picture to enlarge.
