12:48 P.M.-- I like to work back and forth between the background and subject for color and contrast effects. I decided on a background of a garden with flowers. |
Thursday, July 27, 9:00 p.m.:--Tonight I did some refining on the dog after putting some linseed oil over the dry canvas to help with blending. The oil causes a lot of reflection in the photograph so I had to adjust this digital picture on the computer to get rid of reflective noise. |

Portrait Completed Friday: 1:00 p.m.: Left is the final portrait. I moved the horizon back because the size of the dog is very small and in proportion to the background he appeared to be a giant. |
| In the background, I made more grass around his feet and suggestions of grass further into the background. I zoomed in on the photo in Paint Shop Pro to see it up close. | Even though the background may not be as interesting now, does not make her appear to be oversized. Sometimes simplicity is a better choice when doing portrait backgrounds. . I hope my client likes it. |
Final Portrait can be seen here. |
No matter how one might think a painting is finished, many times there are some last minute touches that seem to call out to you. I decided to further refine some things. The left ear, the right eye, and some fine hairs on the chest, to name a few. . Click on this picture to the left for a look at the last final. It is also a clearer picture of the final painting. |
