This live webcam was completed with the help of a free program called Fwink that gets your installed webcam to snap a picture of whatever its pointed at every few seconds (or longer) and then uploads it to your server. (After you configure it with the address.) The markup code for this page is equiped with some javascript, (courtesy of WebCam World.) It is designed to refresh only the picture, not the entire page. (You can refresh the entire page if you want to see any new content or changes I've made.) If the picture is frozen and not changing, then there may be a snag in the operation or the Fwink program is off. If I use the webcam to chat on yahoo or skype, this page will not be getting new pictures because two programs cannot use the webcam at the same time. If I hooked up another webcam I could do both at once. If sometimes the picture is not there at all, wait for 30 seconds to see if another one loads. (If I am not working, the new picture may not change much unless my cats happen to be up to their mischief.) I will be writing a summary in layman's terms (my terms)of how to set up a web cam for those interested and I will put it on my newbie lessons on www.bacaracka.com soon.I have to admit that I spent an hour or more chatting with Hostgator support to try to figure out how to get it to work right. Hostgator has great support. The main problem I was having was actually with the open source free Frink program, not the hosting server. The camera kept freezing when the preview pane was open. When I reduced it to a quick launch button it worked like a charm. Support at Hostgator helped me create an FTP account that uploads the pictures directly to the folder. Thanks Hostgator!
