SWEARINGEN FARM

Location: Extreme southeastern Baca County, Colorado, 8 miles west of Elkhart, Kansas.

Total acreage: 3,500 acres, more or less. All excellent sandy loam, all contiguous.

Total wet acres: 2,520 acres

Projected Crops for 2007

Mature alfalfa, 715 acres; planted approximately 240 acres fall of 2006.

Federal Crop Insurance & Yields

Mature Alfalfa: 715 acres. Oldest stand 7 years, newest 4 years. 2005 yield 11 tons, 2003-2004 yield 10 tons, 2006 yield 9.25 tons. Projected yield for 2007 10 tons.

Corn 2005: yield 220 bushel average. Approved insurance yield for 2005 based on 2004 yields per field, from 202 bushel to 167 with a 184 bushel average. 2006 will be higher due to 2005 220 bushel average yield.

Wheat: Planted into harvested corn stalks. Approved insurance yield for 2005 runs from 88 to 70 per field with an average of 80 bushel; dry land yield is 30 bushel.
