January 1, 2007 , 8:00 a.m. My Walk about TownBelow: The first trip was a walk to Traders to get some grub. It is only about a block and a half away. I bought a box of food and tied a rope to it and pulled it behind me. It glided along the snow as smooth as a sled. They said they would probably be open until about 5:00 p.m. They had no bread but they had lots of milk.
Below:At the front of the old store, I left my dog Jerico guarding the entrance. He has been cooped up inside for a week and he likes to go out, but he sure did like staying inside during this storm. His place under the porch is buried in a snow drift and so is his normal dog house. I shoveled a path for him to get out the door yesterday.
Below: I delivered some artist solvent to my friend so she could do some painting. The pile behind her would make a wonderful giant snow man, but I don't know if I can talk her into doing it. Besides, it is in the middle of the street. Behind her is the Methodist Church Shelter where over 50 people are waiting to get back on the road home.
Below: My neighbor was determined to dig his little car out so he could go to the liquor store. Now that's dedication.
Below: Next I walked down Main street to the Community Rec Center. You can't see it very good in this shot because of the truck and the U-Haul.

Below: Here is a group playing dominos or something similar.
Below: Looks like as long as we are together we can have fun even if we are stuck in the middle of nowhere. Here is a group who were on their way to Winter Park to ski or snow board. Hey no need to go that far, we have plenty of snow here! Stick around a while!
Below: At least we are safe here. "Last night I got to sleep in a real bed and take a shower, compliments of a local resident."
Below: Even room for a boy and his dog at the community center.
Below: Shy at first, these children decided to look at the camera with a little prodding from me. "Hello Out there!"
Happy new year Springfield. |
